Firmware update - RS485 bus

The software update can be performed via the RS485 bus.

This is more unreliable than updating via SD card. It offers much greater efficiency, because all devices connected to the bus can be updated simultaneously and remotely. A selective update is also possible.

Requirements:

• RS485 converter for PC.
• Terminal program with the ability to send hexadecimal strings and file transmission (e.g. Realterm, you can download it from our mirror).
• SD card in the panel.
• Firmware file (unpacked, extension .bin).
• No active Modbus communication on the bus - the Modbus master must be turned off or disconnected.

Tips:

• The quality of the bus plays a very important role in the process, in particular:
  • correct termination;
  • correct structure (correct bus, no branches).
• Sometimes, despite the correct transmission conditions, some devices may not update, returning the file integrity error.
• This is normal and is due to the nature of the transmission. Mostly it occurs randomly. If this happens, try the operation again.
• All settings saved in the panel are kept.

Procedure:

1	Start the terminal program and configure the communication parameters in accordance with the currently configured in the device TIP: default communication settings: 115200, 8, N, 1	Realterm example:
2	Send frame: 0x00 0x10 0x01 0x04 0x00 0x02 0x04 0x52 0x53 0x46 0x57 0x68 0x07	Realterm example:
3	A popup message should appear on the panels: "REMOTE UPDATE MODE"
[OPTIONAL]	If the panels have a speed other than the default one, after sending the frame from point 3, the terminal program should be changed to parameters: 115200, 8, N, 1 (the update has forced transmission settings).
4	Send the file with the new firmware. TIP: In case of updating after RS485, the name of the opened file is not important.	Realterm example:
5	A popup message should appear on the panels: "DOWNLOADING..."
6	After the file is transferred, the device will reboot automatically in firmware update mode. The further process is the same as for updating via an SD card. Finally, the device will reboot automatically and go back to normal operation.
